Technology Area(s) : CleanTech, Supply Chain and Logistics, Others
The maritime shipping industry lacks Scalable solutions for capturing, and utilizing ship emissions while at sea, leaving over 1 billion tons of annual CO2 emission unaddressed. At present, 99% of ships are still fossil fuel-dependent. This costs shipping companies over 150 Billion dollar$ annually, and contributes to 3% of global emission.
Electrofuel Marine utilizes patented Graphene Oxide membranes to design the world’s first modular flue-to-fuel reactor system that circularly converts greenhouse gas emissions from large container ships into usable carbon-neutral fuel for the ship, in real-time.
Electrofuel Marine’s reactor plugs into the ship’s scrubber system, filters out CO2 emissions, and through a continuous hydrogenation process generates eMethanol, which is then blended back into the ship’s fuel supply. Through this process, EM aims to reduce ship fuel usage and costs by 30%, cut ship emissions by 25%, and save shipping companies millions in annual fuel costs, per ship.
